An experiential trip to immerse yourself in the Paranaense rainforest and the ancestral knowledge of the Mbyá Guaraní community. ABRA focuses on the hands that create and sustain life: those that weave baskets, carve wood, and string seeds, passing down their craft from generation to generation.
This particular trip invites you to spend six days living in harmony with nature, immersed in a nature reserve in the Saltos del Moconá region, where the rainforest and Guaraní culture converge. We’ll spend our days interacting with the Mbyá Pindó Poty community, learning basket weaving, wood carving, and seed ornament making alongside their artisans.

Seed Ornaments
Mbyá Pindó Poty Community
Guaraní seed necklaces are traditional ornaments made primarily from “Mary’s tears”—white or black seeds used to create necklaces, earrings, and bracelets worn by both men and women in the community. Seeds from introduced plants are also used; these are generally collected and selected by women and children and strung together with natural thread. We’ll spend several days with the Mbyá Pindó Poty community, and, guided by their artisans, we’ll learn how to make their distinctive pieces, all while enjoying conversations and stories of pride shared from seed to seed.

Mbyá Pindó Poty Community
The Mbyá Pindó Poty community, part of the Mbyá Guaraní people, is the custodian of ancestral knowledge passed down through generations, which is reflected in its beliefs, traditions, and handicrafts.
Women are the primary basket weavers, crafting baskets and containers from natural fibers such as tacuapí and tacuarembó: they cut the reeds, scrape them, let them dry in the sun, and then skillfully weave them together, decorating them with borders made of dyed strips. To bind the pieces together, they use the bark of the güembé root, and to dye the fibers, they use plant-based dyes such as catiguá bark, dried ychypo pyta leaves, and, in some cases, ashes from fumo bravo or guatambú.

Mbyá Pindó Poty Community
The handicrafts of the Guaraní community draw inspiration from the richness of the Misiones rainforest. The wood used for carving is sustainably sourced from community lands or surrounding areas: hardwoods such as black parrotwood and guatambú, and softwoods such as white mora, cedar, and fumo bravo.
The designs depict native wildlife—toucans, kingfishers, jaguars, tapirs, caimans, and snakes—and the artisans use traditional techniques of hot-iron engraving to add details and textures to the pieces.
Pottery Workshop
Entre Mujeres y El Barro
A women’s collective that works with ñau clay—a gray clay found in Misiones, particularly beneath the red soil near the Paraná River and its lagoons—drawing inspiration from pre-Columbian techniques. Local artisans use this clay to create ceramic pieces and decorative objects, reviving traditional techniques of the Guaraní culture.
Moconá Waterfalls
Visit one of the world’s most unique waterfalls: a series of cascades that run parallel to the Uruguay River, in the heart of the Yabotí Biosphere Reserve.
Margay Reserve
A tour of waterfalls and cascades, hikes through the Misiones rainforest, and wildlife spotting, with forest bathing to awaken all your senses and connect deeply with nature.

DAY 1 • FRIDAY, APRIL 9
Morning: ABRA welcomes participants at the Posadas Airport. Pottery workshop in the city, led by “Entre Mujeres y El Barro.” Lunch provided by ABRA.
Afternoon: Conclusion of the Pottery workshop.
Evening: Overnight stay in Posadas. Dinner on your own.
DAY 2 • SATURDAY, APRIL 10
Morning: Transfer to the Moconá Falls. Lunch (ABRA).
Afternoon: Visit to the Moconá Falls.
Evening: Dinner (ABRA). Overnight stay at Margay Nature Reserve.
DAY 3 • SUNDAY, APRIL 11
Morning: Visit to the Mbyá Guaraní village of Pindó Poty, including a workshop on basket weaving with plant fibers. ABRA lunch cooked over an open fire in the village.
Afternoon: Return to the Margay Nature Reserve.
Evening: ABRA dinner at the reserve.
DAY 4 • MONDAY, APRIL 12
Morning: ABRA welcomes the Mbyá Guaraní Pindó Poty community to the reserve. Woodcarving and seed necklace workshop with artisans from the community. Lunch provided by ABRA.
Afternoon: We continue the workshop.
Evening: Dinner provided by ABRA at the reserve.
DAY 5 • TUESDAY, APRIL 13
Morning and afternoon: Tour of the Margay Reserve—visits to waterfalls, a hike through the Misiones rainforest, and wildlife spotting. Lunch at the reserve.
Afternoon: Experience with local women and a campfire featuring ancestral legends.
Evening: ABRA dinner at the reserve.
DAY 6 • WEDNESDAY, APRIL 14
Morning: Transfer to the Jesuit ruins of San Ignacio. ABRA lunch at the ruins of San Ignacio.
Afternoon: Return to Buenos Aires.
