An experiential journey born of a desire to share the knowledge and crafts of ancestral arts. ABRA connects with those hands that create and live, bearers of a dance passed down from generation to generation, present in the rituals, gestures, and movements of the indigenous peoples of Latin America.
This journey invites you to walk through the cloud forest of the Yungas region of Jujuy, an Andean forest where clouds seem to “hang” from the hills and the vegetation captures the moisture from the air. You’ll participate in workshops on basket weaving and ritual masks with the Guaraní community of Calilegua, and in embroidery workshops with the artisans of Caspalá, on a journey that traverses the mountain forest and the High Valleys until reaching the Quebrada de Humahuaca.

Crafts and the Region
San Francisco de Yungas
The Guaraní community is responsible for passing on and promoting its culture in this region, a territory where there is much to recover and strengthen in the face of the constant threat of deforestation and the expansion of the agricultural frontier. Artisans from the community lead the basket-weaving and mask-making workshops held in the town of San Francisco de Yungas, sharing their language and their craft as part of an ongoing effort to strengthen their culture.
Guaraní Basket Weaving

“Just as you write, we create art.” Basket weaving is an artistic practice associated with ritual. Simply harvesting the caranday requires significant effort due to the distance that must be traveled to reach the fiber, and the leaves must be dried for three days before they can be shaped. Eva and Ofelia, artisans from the Guaraní community, lead the workshop and share a day of storytelling and fellowship among women, punctuated by the rhythm of weaving.
Chané Mask Workshop
With Nelson Bravo
In all cultures, masks have always served a purpose that goes beyond aesthetics, especially within the realm of ritual, and the Chané culture—which has strong ties to the Guaraní—is no exception. Nelson Bravo, a member of the Guaraní community in Calilegua, shares his knowledge about masks and invites the group to take part in this process through a workshop held in the heart of nature.
Embroidery and Gathering
Caspalá Community
Santa Ana, Valle Colorado, and Caspalá are towns where women embroider as naturally as they breathe. Whether together or apart, they know themselves as embroiderers: they have preserved, passed down, and maintained their ancestral knowledge and traditions across generations, and they have managed to organize themselves to turn their craft into a livelihood. They convey their strength through every flower and wear their rebozos with pride.
Visit to Red Puna
Artisan Cooperatives, Tilcara
Red Puna welcomes the group to Tilcara, led by General Coordinator Liliana Martínez, who shares what lies behind every gesture of an artisan and their work: the processes that take place before and after a piece is created, and the connection each piece has with its creator and their community. The tour includes a regional lunch and a visit to the local market.
Calilegua National Park
With guides from the Guaraní Community
Guaraní community guides welcome the group at Calilegua National Park and accompany them through this protected natural area, home to jaguars, tapirs, ocelots, and toucans, with more than 350 species of birds and 123 species of trees. The experience begins with stories and a regional lunch amid this lush jungle vegetation.

DAY 1 • MONDAY, OCTOBER 5
Morning: ABRA Textil meets guests at the San Salvador de Jujuy airport in the
morning. Transfer to Calilegua National Park. ABRA lunch in the great outdoors.
Afternoon: Visit to Calilegua National Park. Transfer and overnight stay in San Francisco
de Yungas.
Evening: ABRA welcome dinner.
DAY 2 • TUESDAY, OCTOBER 6
Morning: Basket-weaving workshop led by Eva Souto and Ofelia Sajama, artisans from the Guaraní community of Calilegua. ABRA lunch.
Afternoon: Closing of the basket-weaving workshop.
Evening: ABRA dinner.
DAY 3 • WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 7
Morning: Chané Mask Workshop led by Nelson Bravo. ABRA lunch.
Afternoon: Closing of the Chané Mask Workshop.
Evening: ABRA farewell dinner.
DAY 4 • THURSDAY, OCTOBER 8
Morning: Hike through the High Valleys. ABRA lunch in nature (picnic).
Afternoon: Transfer and overnight stay in the community of Caspalá.
Evening: ABRA dinner hosted by the community in the village dining hall.
DÍA 5 • FRIDAY, OCTOBER 9
Morning: Embroidery workshop led by master embroiderers from the community.
ABRA lunch with the artisans of Caspalá.
Afternoon: Embroidery workshop and walk through the town.
Evening: ABRA dinner hosted by the community in the town hall.
DAY 6 • SÁBADO 10/10
Morning: Departure from Caspalá.
Afternoon: Transfer and overnight stay in Humahuaca.
Evening: Free time with ABRA activity.
DAY 7 • SUNDAY, OCTOBER 11
Morning: Tour of the city of Tilcara. Discussion with artisans from the Red Puna. Lunch and traditional cooking demonstration at El Patio de Tilcara with Anita Ponse.
Afternoon: Free time.
Evening: End of the ABRA TEXTIL trip. Return to Buenos Aires.
